Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794), a distinguished French chemist of the 18th century, played a pivotal role in the “Chemical Revolution.” His groundbreaking contributions, pivotal in establishing the foundations of modern chemistry, have earned him the title “Father of Modern Chemistry.” We celebrate the 280th anniversary of Lavoisier’s birth on August 26, 2023, under the theme “Laying the Foundations for Chemistry: Commemorating the 280th Anniversary of the Birth of Lavoisier.” This exhibition, drawing inspiration from Lavoisier’s influential 1789 publication “Elements of Chemistry,” features a collection of experimental apparatus and instruments from his chemical laboratory, presently preserved in the Musée national des Arts et Métiers. This exhibition is an invitation to explore the enthralling epoch of scientific discovery defined by Lavoisier’s extraordinary achievements.
